YOUNGSTOWN — A baseball bat was confiscated and Monet Lipford, 33, of Seneca Avenue, was charged with felonious assault after police found a blood-covered woman near Lipford’s home on Thursday. Lipford was arraigned Friday in municipal court and bond was set at $50,000. She will be back in court next week for a pretrial. Police found the victim, 24-year-old Darneise Coggins, with a large cut to the top left side of her head. She told police that she was struck with the bat while dozing on Lipford’s couch. Coggins said she ran upstairs and jumped out a second-story window. She was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center. No motive was given for the incident.

Busing to be disrupted

CANFIELD — The school district is expecting busing delays beginning Monday and continuing through the week because Shields Road is closing for repairs. Rich Archer, district business manager, said buses that use Shields on their routes will be affected, but other buses will try to help pick up kids. Only one family that actually lives on Shields will need to find other transportation, he said. Archer said delays will affect the buses before and after school.

Bronze vases stolen

YOUNGSTOWN — Grave robbers stole 36 bronze vases valued at roughly $8,000 from Calvary Cemetery on South Belle Vista Avenue, police said. An employee of the cemetery told police on Thursday that reports of the thefts have been coming in the past two to three weeks. Some of the vases are a hammered style and worth $225 each and the others are Grecian style and valued at $200 each.

Stolen plumbing?

BOARDMAN — The owner of Forest Hill Road house told police that someone had stolen copper plumbing from the home. The house is for sale and the owner lives in Columbiana. She went to the house Thursday afternoon and found that the key from the lock box used by her real estate agent was missing. The copper plumbing had been taken from the basement.

Seniors, Money workshop

YOUNGSTOWN — Senior citizens in Mahoning County are invited to learn about protecting their financial health at a free Seniors and Money workshop Monday. The event is sponsored by Ohio Treasurer Richard Cordray and the Ohio Department of Aging. The two-hour workshop starting at 10 a.m. will focus on personal finance issues specific to older Ohioans including identity theft and tips to avoid financial scams. The event will be at the Mahoning County Multipurpose Senior Center, 1110 Fifth Ave. Senior citizens interesting in attending can obtain more information by calling the Office of Aging at (330) 746-2938, Ext. 109.

City offers rabies shots

YOUNGSTOWN — The city health district will give rabies shots to pets today. The district will inoculate cats, dogs or ferrets from 1 to 4 p.m. at their headquarters at Oakhill Renaissance Place, 345 Oak Hill Ave. Shots will be $3 each. Under investigation

WARREN — Firefighters responded to a house fire on the 600 block of Delaware Avenue Southwest. The fire happened at 5:30 Friday morning and is under investigation. No one was injured.

Accused of child rape

GIRARD — A 65-year-old city man has pleaded innocent to two counts of rape and one count of gross sexual imposition and is in Trumbull County Jail on $250,000 bond. William M. Cvetkovitch of Hancock Street entered the plea Friday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court after being arrested earlier in the day on a warrant. He was secretly indicted earlier in the week by a Trumbull County grand jury. Cvetkovich is accused of raping one child under age 10 and one between the ages of 10 and 13 in his home this summer. If convicted of the rape on the younger child, he could be sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.

Girard open meeting

GIRARD — Citizens for Girard Seniors invite the community to an open meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at the Girard Multi-Generational Center, 443 Trumbull Ave. The meeting is to explain the need of supporting the Girard Senior Center Service Levy in the Nov. 6 election. There will be a brief presentation followed by a question-and-answer session.
