Woman uses bat in assault

YOUNGSTOWN — A baseball bat was confiscated and Monet Lipford, 33, of Seneca Avenue charged with felonious assault after police found a blood-covered woman near Lipford’s home on Thursday.

Lipford was arraigned today in municipal court and a judge set her bond at $50,000. She will be back in court next week for a pretrial.

Police found the victim, 24-year-old Darneise Coggins, with a large cut to the top left side of her head. She told police that she was struck with the bat while dozing on Lipford’s couch.

Coggins said she ran upstairs and jumped out a second-story window. She was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center. Her condition wasn’t immediately available. No motive was given for the alleged attack.
