SHARON, Pa. — Firefighters were battling a blaze to a home and garage on the 200 block of North Sharpsville Road late Wednesday. The fire was reported at 8:54 p.m. with both structures fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters were still there more than two hours after the fire was reported.

Lease dispute settlement

YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County commissioners are expected to approve a settlement today with Ohio Valley Mall to resolve all legal proceedings between the county and the Cafaro Co. subsidiary. The proposed deal on the commissioners’ meeting agenda calls for annual payments of $225,000 to Ohio Valley Mall for four years to settle a lease dispute. OVM owns Garland Plaza on the city’s East Side. That is the former home of the county’s Department of Job and Family Services. The county agency moved from Garland Plaza in July to Oakhill Renaissance Place, the former Forum Health Southside Medical Center.

YMCA ‘On the Move Week’

WARREN — The Warren Family YMCA will join in a national YMCA program called America On the Move Week, Saturday through Sept. 29, which allows people to try some programs and classes free. On the Move Week is designed to promote active living and healthful eating by tracking the number of participants and their steps through the week with a goal of reaching 10 billion steps taken nationally. To participate, stop at the front desk and sign in. The facility is located at 210 High St. N.W. A staff member will provide a quick-start guide, which will track your steps for the week. Youth Blast at high school

COLUMBIANA — The East Fairfield United Methodist Church will present Youth Blast 2007 from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Crestview High School, 4100 Crestview Road. This year’s event will feature entertainment by Real Encounter with Brad Bennett. The evening will include motorcycle stunt riding, freestyle BMX and X-Games, skateboarding, a live band and DJ, a silent auction, free giveaways, and a testimony by Bennett. Pizza Hut will provide pizza parties for four people and nine of their friends. Seating is limited for the free event. Tickets are required for the giveaways and silent auction. Tickets will be available Saturday evening at the event.

Child safety training

AUSTINTOWN — The ATA Black Belt Academy, in conjunction with AMBERAlert.com, will have a Child Safety Training program from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at its studio at 5880 Mahoning Ave. in the Austintown Plaza. The program is free. Children attending the session will be taught break-away techniques, stranger warning signs, tips for dealing with bullies and Internet safety. It’s part of a worldwide initiative launched by ATA Martial Arts and AMBERAlert.com to help minimize the risk of child abduction through education.
