ERIE, Pa. — Freshman Jake Kern (Fairfield, Pa.) scored his first collegiate goal at the 84:10 mark. Grove City (2-3-2) trailed for over 80 minutes as Behrend (3-2-2) took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Jerry Tortella at 2:59. However, Grove City sent the match to overtime on Kern's unassisted score. In OT, senior goalkeeper Michael Manahan (State College, Pa.) stopped three shots to preserve the tie. Manahan finished the match with nine total saves. Penn State Behrend owned a 23-16 shot edge, including an 8-2 advantage in overtime. Penn State Behrend also held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.

VOLLEYBALL

Grove City def. Penn State Behrend 3-2 (30-25, 29-31, 26-30, 30-23, 15-13 ) — Grove City pulled out a victory. The victory is the 500th at Grove City for 23rd-year head coach Susan Roberts. She is the first Grove City coach to accumulate 500 victories in one sport. Grove City (11-1) trailed 11-4 in the final game but scored 11 of the final 13 points to earn the victory. Grove City is off to its best start since 1985.

Bethany 3, Chatham 1

BETHANY, W. Va. – Senior Lauren Spegal (Bethel Park, Pa.) hammered down 16 kills, as the Bethany College volleyball team won its first PAC match of the season Wednesday night by a 3-0 score (30-15, 30-17, 30-15) over visiting Chatham (Pa.) University (1-10, 0-3). Bethany is 5-8, 1-2 PAC.
