Recycling day at Lawrence fairgrounds
There are fees to drop off items.
NEW CASTLE, Pa. — PA CleanWays of Butler-Lawrence Counties annual recycling day for electronics, appliances and tires will from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds.
PA CleanWays will be accepting these materials: large appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, hot water tanks, and air conditioners, passenger vehicle and light-truck tires (no rims), computers, printers, fax machines, copiers, telephones, VCRs, DVD players, televisions and microwaves.
In an effort to offer residents and businesses additional recycling opportunities, PA CleanWays has added old floppy disks, CDs, DVDs and VHS tapes to the list of acceptable materials. There are fees for drop-off, and only cash will be accepted.
“We are noticing fewer and fewer tires being dumped along area roadways, probably because of the consistent tire collections we have provided the community,” said Jerry Zona, PA CleanWays president.
The group started holding special collections in 1997 for tires and added appliances in 1998 and electronics in 2004. To date, the organization has collected 8,100 tires, 332 appliances and 24,000 pounds of electronics through its special collection program.
Zona is optimistic the addition of appliances and electronics will result in less of these wastes being handled during PA CleanWays illegal dump and road cleanup projects.
