OHSAA signs agreement for more coverage

COLUMBUS (AP) — SportsTime Ohio and Time Warner Cable will televise state high school championships in football and girls and boys basketball in a deal announced Tuesday with the governing body for high school sports.

Other events also may be televised, said Dan Ross, commissioner of the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

The agreement was approved Tuesday by the association’s board of control.

Games had been carried on the Ohio News Network in recent years. The new partnership will nearly triple the potential audience for the games, in addition to providing more money in rights fees to the association. Time Warner, the largest cable carrier in Ohio, reaches more than 3.1 million homes in the state.

Ross said the association is talking with companies interested in providing live and delayed video internet streaming of several tournament events.

The Cleveland Indians created SportsTime Ohio as a regional television network in 2005.
