Storkel’s two goals lead Poland to win


Warren JFK romped past Youngstown Christian; Springfield and Champion won.

POLAND — Kelly Storkel scored two goals Monday as the Poland High girls soccer team defeated Canfield, 5-2.

Becky Hanna, Jordan Palumbo and Sam Robertson scored a goal and an assist for the Bulldogs (3-2-2, 2-1-1 Metro Athletic Conference). Goalkeeper Erin Eckman made eight saves.

For Canfield (3-3-2, 3-1-0), Audra Frimprong and Cassie Semann scored and goalkeeper Anokha Padubidri made nine saves.

JVs: Canfield, 2-1.

Howland 15, East Liverpool 0

HOWLAND — Anna Wall, Megan Long, Abby Nicholas and Sarah Ward each scored two goals for the Tigers (5-0-3, 4-0-0 MAC).

Deja Amato, Stephanie Keul, Gina Albani, Jessica Wilson, Sam Marscio, Val Spano and Gina Wall also scored.

The Potters are 1-5, 0-4.

AUSTINTOWN — Jerrica Cooper scored five goals and Erin McBride three for Warren JFK.

Gina Gelsomino also scored for the Eagles (5-2-2).

Taylor Gee had three assists while Cooper and McBride had two apiece. Natalie Pleiss had an assist while goalkeeper Helena Demacopolous made seven saves.

The Eagles (6-1-1) suffered their first loss.

Alliance 5, Harding 0

ALLIANCE — Mallory Schillig scored three goals for the Aviators (3-5-0). Brittany Jarvis and Allison Gansel also scored.

Gansel also made two assists while goalkeeper Megan Burless made 11 saves.

For Harding (7-2-0), goalkeeper Avrielle Merten made 20 saves.

Springfield 9, United 1

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Katie Bretz had three goals while Allyson Berry had two goals and three assists for the Tigers (5-1-1, 3-0 Inter Tri-County League Tier One).

Carrie Ritzler added two goals while Kelly Fitzpatrick and Alex Pizzuto each scored one.

Heather Cozak made four saves and Melissa Huffman had five.

For United (1-8, 1-3), Morgan Williams scored, Alysia Cross made four saves and Nicki Deruyter made 11.

Maplewood 8, Crestview 0

MAPLEWOOD — Tori Spencer scored a career-high four goals and added two assists for the Rockets (3-4-1).

Emily Paris scored two goals. Michelle Sloan and Erica Pinko each added a goal and Pinko also had an assist. Ellie Engstrom made five saves.

For Crestview (2-7), Kelly Peppel made 21 saves and Courtney Morris made three.

Champion 2, Lakeview 1

CHAMPION — Heather Beachy and Erika Stevens each scored a goal for the Flashes (5-3-1, 4-0 Trumbull Athletic Conference).

Amanda Perry and Brittany Wortman each added assists while Beth Sayers had two saves in the game, which was 2-1 at halftime.

Nikki Bevilacqua scored for Lakeview (5-1-2, 4-1) while Laura Griffith had an assist and Jen Ulam made six saves.

Badger 8, Struthers 2

KINSMAN — Shawna McNeely and Amelia Deraway each scored three goals for Badger (5-3-1). Taylor Phillips and Adrianna Braho also scored.

Amelia Deraway, Adrianna Braho and Jenna Miller had two assists each while goalkeeper Kelsey Flowers made five saves.

For the Wildcats (3-5), Alana Smith and Ashley Baron scored and Jessica Shuler had an assist. Goalkeeper Katy Dvorak made six saves.

Boys

EAST PALESTINE — Mitchell See and Aaron Stewart each scored a goal to lead Crestview (8-1, 5-0 ICTL Tier One) past East Palestine, 2-1.

Brian Bechtel, who paced the Rebels defense, added an assist along with See.

Trevor Patterson scored for East Palestine.

South Range 1, United 1

NORTH LIMA — Alex Baker scored the goal and goalkeeper Luke Yeagley made 10 saves for the Raiders.
