AUSTINTOWN — Police are looking for leads in the case of a woman who disappeared from a township business Tuesday morning. Co-workers report finding Janet L. Johnson’s office light on and cell phone on her desk. But the 45-year-old who co-workers say always arrived early was nowhere to be found. Her car was missing from the parking lot of Southern Care, 5401 Ashley Circle, according to reports. Johnson is described as a thin brunette, weighing about 120 pounds with hazel eyes. She drives a tan 2004 Jeep Liberty with Ohio registration DCL-5106. Police say there are no suspects in the case. Anyone with information regarding her disappearance should call the Austintown Police Department at (330) 799-9721.

Farmer’s market set

HOWLAND — The township will sponsor a second farmer’s and crafter’s market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the gazebo on East Market Street across from the Giant Eagle plaza.

Reduced charges

NILES — A city couple originally charged with child endangering after leaving three children home alone have been found guilty of reduced charges. Jack Tenney, 31, and his wife, Laura, 23, each pleaded no contest Monday in municipal court to charges of disorderly conduct. They each received a suspended 30-day jail sentence and were ordered to pay $122 in fines and costs. Police said Jack Tenney left their three children, ages 3 and under, alone at their East Federal Street home while he went to Coitsville to pick up his wife where she was working as an exotic dancer.

Candidate drops out
of Austintown race

AUSTINTOWN — Rich Edwards of Nashua Drive has withdrawn as a candidate for township fiscal officer. With Edwards, a former township trustee, out of the race, that leaves Michael J. Kurish of Lancaster Drive, the incumbent, as the only candidate for the position formerly called township clerk.

Man killed in wreck

CENTER TOWNSHIP — A Boardman man was killed
Sunday after his four-wheeler collided with a tree. Charles R. Hoyle, 34, of Helena Avenue, was dead when paramedics arrived on the scene, 12330 Steubenville Pike Road, shortly after 7:30 p.m. Hoyle, who suffered from impaired vision, had been drinking before the accident, according to the Columbiana County Sheriff’s office.

Firefighter injured

YOUNGSTOWN — A firefighter working his way to the attic of a house at 548 W. Glenaven Ave. was injured when he fell through stairs Sunday afternoon, the fire department said. The firefighter was checked out by a doctor and told to go home. Two miniature Dobermans were pulled from the basement unharmed. The fire, which did about $7,500 in damage, started at and spread from 544 W. Glenaven Ave. It wasn’t immediately clear if anyone had been living in the house where the fire started. Damage to the second structure was listed as $2,000, a total loss. The cause remains under investigation.

Recycling center closing

NEW MIDDLETOWN — The recycling center on Struthers Road will be closed Wednesday through next Monday for paving of the lot. The center at the Township Building, 3475 E. South Range Road, will be in operation.

OVI checkpoints planned

The Trumbull Operating a Vehicle Impaired Task Force announced that area police departments will operate two sobriety checkpoints Wednesday in the county. The checkpoints will be held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols to prevent alcohol-related injury and fatal crashes.

Detour in Liberty

LIBERTY — A detour will be in place on Logangate Road at the Norfolk & Southern railroad crossing Monday through Sept. 28 for repairs to the crossing.
