Jarvis leads Kent State’s 38-7 win


He rushed for 136 yards and scored twice against Delaware State.

KENT — Eugene Jarvis rushed for 136 yards and scored two touchdowns and Julian Edelman passed for three scores to lead Kent State past Delaware State 38-7 Saturday.

Jarvis, who carried 22 times, scored on a 4-yard run and also caught a 42-yard touchdown pass from Edelman.

Edelman completed 18-of-33 passes for 267 yards with one interception. He also hit Shawn Bayes on a 42-yard scoring strike and tossed a 56-yard touchdown pass to Rashad Tukes.

Bayes added a 95-yard kickoff return for a score in the final minute for the Golden Flashes (2-1).

No. 18 Virginia Tech 28, Ohio 7

BLACKSBURG, Va. — Freshman quarterback Tyrod Taylor ran for a touchdown and didn’t make any mistakes as the Hokies struggled again offensively. Taylor limited his running and completed 18 of 31 passes for 287 yards. He also scored on a 6-yard draw play with 3:38 left in the third quarter, giving the Hokies (2-1) their first lead, 14-7.

The Bobcats (2-1) gained just 114 yards and got their only points on a 26-yard drive set up by Eddie Royal’s muffed punt in the first half. Ohio spent most of the second half trying to get out of its own territory and only got as far as midfield.

Cincinnati 47, Miami (Ohio) 10

OXFORD — Sophomore Marshawn Gilyard blocked a punt for a safety and caught a touchdown pass in the first quarter and Dustin Grutza threw for two scores to spark Cincinnati. Grutza, starting in place of the injured Ben Mauk, threw both touchdown passes in the first half. Grutza finished 25-for-35 for 290 yards.

Miami (1-2) snapped Cincinnati’s streak of consecutive quarters without allowing a touchdown at 10 on Daniel Raudabaugh’s 16-yard touchdown pass to Armand Robinson in the third quarter.

Missouri 52, W. Michigan 24

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Jeremy Maclin racked up 275 total yards and scored two touchdowns and Tony Temple added two TDs to lead Missouri. Chase Daniel threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third, completing 27 of 46 passes for 328 yards for Missouri.

Ball St. 34, Navy 31, OT

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Jake Hogue kicked a 24-yard field goal in overtime, and Ball State capitalized on two late Navy miscues to pull out a victory. The teams combined for more than 1,000 yards in total offense, but the game turned after most of that yardage had been accumulated.
