Surviving attack will be topic of lecture

YOUNGSTOWN — Can our Constitutional government survive a major terrorist attack?

That will be the topic of a Constitution Day lecture at 7 p.m. Monday in the Ohio Room of Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University.

Dr. John Fortier, executive director of the Continuity of Government Commission in Washington, D.C., will speak at the annual YSU Constitution Day program.

“Extreme Succession: Can Our Constitutional Government Survive a Major Terrorist Attack?” will be his theme. He will discuss how a Constitutional government might continue if a large number of government leaders are killed or incapacitated, preventing normal lines of succession from being implemented.

The program is free and open to the public.

The Continuity of Government Commission was created in fall 2002 to study and make recommendations for the continuity of US. government institutions after a catastrophic attack.
