Youngstown teachers

Key changes in the new three-year contract accepted by the Youngstown Education Association include:

Starting salary: Remains at $29,006.

Maximum salary: $68,000.

Average salary: $56,000.

Minimum number of positions reduced from 740 to 400.

Teachers will pay an average 5 percent of health-care insurance costs.

Maximum class size will be reduced from 25 to 24 in K-6 and from 28 to 27 in 7-12.

Number of pupil tests will be reduced to avoid duplication and allow more time for teaching.
