Scouting report: Mount Union was off last week after defeating Averett (Va.), 75-7, on Sept. 1. Otterbein lost its season opener to Defiance, 16-14, last Saturday. Mount Union’s defense and special teams accounted for three scores against Averett. Safety Drew McClain set a MUC record with a 100-yard interception return for a TD. DT Matt Williamson ran back tackle Pat McCullough’s forced fumble 20 yards for his first career score. DE James Herbert ran back Matt Kostelnik’s fifth blocked punt of the season for his first career TD.

Scouting report: Thiel lost to Alfred 34-7 last week. Senior QB Willie Bova was 18-for-35 passing for 230 yards and one TD. WR Marc LaScola (Wellsville) had seven receptions for 100 yards and one TD. LaScola has caught passes in eight straight games. Over the span, he has 59 catches for 574 yards and eight TDs.

GENEVA (1-1)

Scouting report: Geneva’s late rally fell short against W&J last week, 28-20, while Westminster beat Saint Vincent, 48-7. Golden Tornadoes senior QB Bobby Bondi accounted for 330 yards — 230 passing and 100 rushing. Westminster is 2-0 for the first time since 1997. Sophomore TB Nick McKolosky rushed for a career-high 143 yards on 25 carries and three TDs. McKolosky also had four catches for 43 yards. Sophomore QB Kevin Frantz completed 16 of 28 passes for 171 yards and two TDs with two interceptions.

GROVE CITY (0-2)

Scouting report: Grove City lost to Carnegie Mellon, 16-6, last week while Thomas More had an open date. QB Andrew DiDonato completed 25 of 40 passes for 238 yards for Grove City, while senior Ian Tobin tied the school record with 13 passes. Senior LB Bill Waugh had a team-high 13 tackles with his second career interception.

SAINT VINCENT (0-2)

Scouting report: Saint Vincent lost to Westminster last week, 48-7, in its first PAC game in school history. In Bethany’s win, Nick Neratka became the first Bison RB to exceed 100 yards rushing with 127 in 23 carries. Matt Cruse had a career-high 122 yards receiving in six receptions, including a 59-yard TD. LB Bill Wineberg had 12 tackles and a sack.

ALLEGHENY (0-1)
vs. HIRAM (0-1)

Series history: Allegheny leads, 27-11-2.
Scouting report: Allegheny was off last week after losing to Westminster in the season opener, 13-6. Hiram fell to Bethany, 24-7, last Saturday in its season opener. Punter Jason Black (Champion) of Allegheny averaged 41.5 yards per punt against Bethany, good for 19th in the nation. Curt Anderson had 11 tackles while Mateo Villa and Jon Buggey each picked up nine. Hiram was led by junior RB Jon Agnew (76 yards in 21 attempts and a TD). QB Trevor Henderson completed 15 of 26 passes for 140 yards. Freshman wideout Steven Hammond led Hiram with five catches for 73 yards. Defensively, senior All-NCAC LB Tom Canitia led the team in tackles with eight.

SLIPPERY ROCK (2-0)
vs. BOWIE STATE (0-2)

Game time: 1 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium, Bowie, Md.
Scouting report: Slippery Rock beat Millersville 21-5 last Saturday. Senior QB Nate Crookshank hit 15 of 21 passes for 293 yards and three TDs to lead The Rock, while senior WR Paul Favers caught six passes for a career-high 169 yards and two TDs. Junior RB Corey Manfull (United) rushed for 150 yards in 25 carries. Bowie State lost to Newberry College Saturday, 41-7.

TRINITY INTERNATIONAL (1-1)
vs. WALSH (1-1)

Scouting report: Walsh beat Seton Hill University 12-10 last Saturday, snapping four-game losing streak. Senior Lambros Paxos kicked FGs covering 21 and 36 yards, his latter connection in the third quarter giving the Cavaliers a 12-7 lead. Trinity International bounced back from a season-opening 32-27 loss to Malone with a 17-13 win over Valparaiso last Saturday. Kyle Bennett hit Brennan Smith with a 13-yard scoring strike with 13:35 to play for the win.

UNION (KY.) (0-2)
vs. MALONE (1-1)

Scouting report: Malone lost at Azusa Pacific, 28-21, last Saturday in the Pioneers’ first game in the Pacific Time Zone. Billy Bob Orsagh completed 8 of 15 passes for 168 yards and two TDs, while Dominic Liberati was 7-for-11 for 88 yards and one TD. WR Josh Settlemire (Howland) had four receptions for 72 yards. RB Bernard Payton rushed for 109 yards in 25 carries — his second straight 100-yard game.
