“Out of Jimmy’s Head” (7 p.m., Cartoon Network): Dominic James is Jimmy Roberts, the boy with the magical brain transplant. In “Re-Animated,” a 2006 Cartoon Network movie, Jimmy suffered a collision with a trolley at Gollyworld theme park and received the brain of cartoonist Milt Appleday. Immediately, he began seeing all of Milt’s cartoon characters come alive. In this new series, Golly and Dolly Gopher, Crocco the Alligator and other critters return to join the seventh-grader in more adventures.

“Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team” (8 p.m., CMT): It takes more than a great smile and legs up to here to be an NFL cheerleader. Lots of hard work is also involved. “Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team” is an eight-part series that escorts viewers through the anxiety-ridden tryouts, the grueling training camp and the tearful cuts.

“Nashville” (9 p.m., Fox): Behind every song, there’s a story to be told. That’s the mission statement of “Nashville,” a new docu-drama from the producers of “Laguna Beach” that peeks into the lives of young people struggling to break into the music business.

“Heavyweights” (9 p.m., Food Network): Historic faceoffs in the food biz — starting with ice cream and followed at 9:30 p.m. by Pepsi vs. Coke — are profiled in this limited-run series.

“NOW” (11 p.m., PBS): On the heels of an official progress report on the war in Iraq, “NOW” takes its own hard look at the war through the eyes of the U.S. men and women fighting it. In a special hourlong edition, “NOW” focuses on the Third Infantry’s First Brigade from Georgia’s Ft. Stewart, which earlier this year headed back to Iraq for the third deployment in four years. As the long months of the “surge” unfold, these troops are seen fighting in the country’s volatile Anbar province, while, back at home, their newborns become toddlers, and birthdays and anniversaries pass them by. What are the personal and political costs of constant redeployment? Is the war effort at a turning point, or a breaking point? Do American soldiers think this is a war worth fighting, a war they can win? “My biggest concern is just to make it home with 10 fingers and toes,” one soldier tells “NOW.”
