New Boardman eateries acquire permits

Five new restaurants are expected to open in the
township.

BOARDMAN — Whether you’re looking for pasta, burgers or a burrito, it’s all coming to the township.

Darren Crivelli, township zoning inspector, has issued permits for two new restaurants, with permits for three others expected in the coming weeks.

Chipotle Mexican Grill, a Mexican restaurant, is planned at 525 Boardman-Poland Road, the site of the former Cord Camera store. The permit lists the valuation at $350,000.

The building permit lists the square footage of the building at 1,942.

Crivelli also issued a permit for Five Guys Famous Burgers and Fries for a 4,505-square-foot building at 7332 Market St. The restaurant will occupy a portion of the building and lease the remainder. The valuation listed on the permit is $315,000.

An Arthur Treacher’s restaurant was knocked down to make way for the new eatery.

“We’re reviewing the plans and expect permits to be issued for O’Charley’s, Scacchetti’s and Antone’s Express,” Crivelli said.

O’Charley’s, a sit-down restaurant featuring steak and seafood, is planned at South Avenue and Windham Court. An O’Charley’s opened in Niles late last year.

Scacchetti’s, formerly at Mahoning Avenue and Four Mile Run Road, Austintown, is slated for the U.S. Route 224 plaza that houses Value City Department Store. The space is the former location of Office Depot.

The restaurant is seeking a permit for Sunday sale of beer, wine, mixed beverages and spirituous liquor on the November ballot.

Antone’s Express, including a drive-through, is to open on Market Street, next to Antone’s Banquet Center.

The Chipotle chain started in 1993 in Denver and one opened about a year ago in Niles. The restaurant specializes in made-to-order gourmet burritos and tacos and boasts more than 450 restaurants.

The restaurant’s Web site says that it looks to urban and suburban areas with strong residential and daytime populations.

Five Guys Famous Burgers and Fries’ Website indicates locations in Avon and Strongsville, but the Boardman spot is the first one in the Mahoning Valley.

Like the name implies, the restaurant offers a variety or hamburgers and french fries along with hot dogs. It’s based in Lorton, Va.
