FOOD DRIVE Helping the hungry
Bonnie Deutsch Burdman, director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation, said the local High Holiday Food Drive is in its 16th year. It’s planned today through Oct. 9.
Each year, the food drive collects between 3,500 to 4,000 pounds of food, which is donated to Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley and Community Food Warehouse of the Shenango Valley.
This year the food drive is being held in conjunction with the national Food Stamp Challenge. Burdman said the local Jewish federation is under the umbrella of its national affiliate, which promotes an anti-poverty and anti-hunger campaign.
