Cronin to admit drunken driving; view arrest video here
YOUNGSTOWN — Retired judge Maureen A. Cronin will plead guilty this afternoon in Mahoning County Area Court in Canfield to driving drunk last week on state Route 11 in Beaver Township, according to the court bailiff. Cronin, 54, of Canfield Road refused to have her blood alcohol concentration tested after being stopped by an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper at 11:54 p.m. Sept. 5. Through her lawyer, a not guilty plea was entered and a pretrial set for next month. Her Youngstown lawyer, Scott R. Cochran, then filed a motion to temporarily withhold the dashboard videotaped record of her arrest. Judge Scott D. Hunter granted the motion. David Marburger, a lawyer representing The Vindicator and WFMJ-TV 21, filed a motion asking the judge to release the videotape, which is a public record. A hearing on the tape is scheduled for 3 p.m. today. Cronin, who retired from the Mahoning County Common Pleas bench in July, pleaded guilty to OVI, operating a vehicle impaired, in April 2005 in Boardman. She also refused to have her blood alcohol concentration tested in that case.
