“American Masters: Tony Bennett” (9 p.m., PBS): The story of the man Frank Sinatra called “the best singer in the business” includes coverage of Bennett’s 2005 Monterey Jazz Festival performance and interviews at his home.
“Deserving Design” (9 p.m., HGTV): In the inspiring new series, “Deserving Design,” architectural and interior designer Vern Yip travels the country in search of needy people and rewards them with dramatic room makeovers. Along the way, he hopes to transform some lives, as well.
“Brown Is the New Green: George Lopez and the American Dream” (10:30 p.m., PBS): With its spotlight on actor George Lopez, this special examines how attempts to profit from the fast-growing Latino population are shaping the culture’s identity. The program includes footage of Lopez in his everyday life, both as a performer and behind the scenes. He discusses his own efforts to represent Latinos in a realistic light, in contrast with marketers’ efforts to cast Latinos as a separate subculture. The broadcast also looks at the preferences of the sought-after Latino youth demographic.
