West Branch board approves contracts for 2

BELOIT — At a special meeting Monday, the West Branch Board of Education approved filling two administrative positions.

The board gave Sherri Kitzmiller a two-year contract as director of special services. She will replace Marsha Schumacher, who is to retire Jan. 31. Kitzmiller’s contract takes effect Feb. 1, and her annual salary will be $74,854, Superintendent Dr. Scott Weingart said.

Kitzmiller was an elementary and middle school teacher in the district before becoming Beloit Elementary School’s principal in 2004. Her new duties will include coordinating federal programs such as reading and intervention, Weingart said.

School officials also gave a two-year pact to Roger Kitzmiller to serve as the elementary school’s principal, at an annual salary of $71,843. His contract goes into effect Dec. 1. He was principal at Maple Ridge Elementary School, which is in the district, from 1997 to 2000. The Kitzmillers are cousins by marriage.

Both contracts expire July 31, 2009.

In other business, the board hired Stacey Patterson as a part-time Title One tutor. Her primary duties will be to work with kindergarten pupils who need reading intervention, Weingart noted.

The next regular meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. Sept. 27 in the Beloit High School media center.
