Two Scrappers set team marks
NILES — The Mahoning Valley Scrappers had two players on their 2007 team that set franchise records.
Todd Martin became the second Scrapper in franchise history to win a batting title. He joined Ben Francisco who hit .349 in 2002.
Martin’s .360 average was the highest in team history. He also set a franchise record in slugging percentage (.533) breaking the mark of .523 set by Chris Gimenez in 2004.
His .423 on-base percentage was also a new team mark. It broke another Gimenez record of .419 in ’04.
On the mound, Kyle Landis set a new ERA record for pitchers with at least 10 appearances in a season.
The 18th-round draft pick of out the University of Pittsburgh allowed one earned run in 27 1/3 innings. The 0.33 ERA broke the record of 1.39 set last season by Neal Wagner.
Despite losing their last five games of the season the Scrappers finished with a 37-37 record.
It was the seventh time in their nine year history the Scrappers finished with a record of .500 or better.
The season also included the team’s lone no-hitter. Kelvin De La Cruz, Dan Frega and Vinnie Pestano no-hit the Vermont Lake Monsters at Centennial Field in the second game of a doubleheader on July 12.
