Salem United Way drive seeks $266,000

SALEM — The directors and board members of United Way Services of Northern Columbiana County, volunteers and heads of agencies have started the 2008 campaign to raise $266,000.

The money will go to the 22 local not-for-profit service organizations that provide assistance. That represents a $5,100, or 1.95 percent increase, over last year’s goal.

Roger Hack, president of the local United Way board of directors, said statistics show one in four residents receive some form of benefit from one of the United Way agencies located in Columbiana, East Palestine, Hanoverton, Leetonia, Lisbon, New Waterford, Rogers, Salem, Salineville, Summitville and Washingtonville.

Included among those agencies are the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Family Recovery Center and Salem Area Visiting Nurses Association.

Eloise Traina, executive director of the Family Recovery Center in Lisbon, will be the campaign chairwoman.

A local 16-member volunteer board of directors makes all policies and decisions that govern the United Way of Northern Columbiana County. All donations directed to the local United Way stay in northern Columbiana County.

The Salem Community Foundation will again provide a 10 percent match to donations made with checks payable to United Way/Salem Community Foundation.

Donations may be sent to the United Way office located at 713 East State St., Salem, Ohio 44460.
