Mooney boys stay unbeaten, 2-1


BELOIT — Matt McWilson and Tim Beck each scored a goal as Cardinal Mooney High defeated West Branch 2-1 in a boys soccer game Saturday night.

Eric Martinez had an assist for the Cardinals (5-0).

Logan Schaeffer scored the goal for the Warriors (3-2).

Goal keeper Brandon Fotiuk had four saves for Mooney. Chance Young had seven saves for the Warriors.

Fitch 0, Canfield 0

AUSTINTOWN — Goalies proved to be a deciding factor in the scoreless defensive battle.

Ali Tolich delivered seven saves for Fitch (4-1-2) while Andakha Padubidri had 14 saves for Canfield (1-1-2).

Fitch took 15 shots while Canfield had seven.

Girls

HOWLAND — Megan Long scored for Howland as the Tigers tied Green, 1-1, in a game delayed twice because of the lightning.

Jessica Wilson assisted on Long’s goal, which came with 31⁄2 minutes remaining in the first half.

Kelsey Ahbe scored the goal for Green (3-2-1) on an assist from Hannah Roeberle. The Bulldogs outshot Howland 6-5.

Casey Haering had five saves for the Tigers and Amanda Unroe had three for Green.

Volleyball

CLEVELAND — Austintown Fitch suffered three losses in a quadrangular Saturday.

The Falcons lost to Magnificat, 25-13, 25-16. Senior setter Kara Roche had nine assists and senior outside hitter Becca Evans had four kills for Fitch.

Kristen Kidd had 12 kills and Kristen DuBroy had 26 assists for Magnificat.

Notre Dame Cath. Latin 25-25, Fitch 19-21

CLEVELAND —  Mary Walter had eight kills and Serena Caruso had 25 assists for Cathedral Latin.

Senior middle hitter Sam Kozbial had six kills, junior libero Michelle Basista had five digs and Roche had seven assits for Fitch.

Holy Name 25-25, Fitch 17-15

CLEVELAND — Laura Smykowski had eight kills and Kayla Dentkos had 22 assists for Holy Name.

Senior setter Lindsay VonSchwarz had five kills, junior middle hitter Rory Sachire had four kills and Roche had eight assists for Fitch (2-5).
