SCHOOL DAYS: Four hundred students, 34 more than expected, showed up for the first day of classes at Youngstown’s brand new Volney Rogers Junior High School on Sept. 6, 1960. All appear to be decked out in their new school clothes, and, like all junior high school students of the day, it was girls on one side, boys on the other. This year, Volney Rogers students are attending class at the old West Elementary building. A new junior high school is being built on the Volney site.
