for Growth Awards

YOUNGSTOWN — Applications are being accepted for the 15th annual Mahoning Valley Growth Awards. These awards are sponsored by the Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University and the Regional Chamber.

Applications can be found on the college Web site at www.wcba.ysu.edu or the chamber Web site at www.regionalchamber.com. All applications must be submitted by Wednesday.

These awards are open for all for-profit businesses in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties. The awards breakfast will be Oct. 11 at Mr. Anthony’s in Boardman.

Awards will be presented for percentage increase in sales, percentage increase in employees, percentage increase in export sales, emerging business and human resource development.

Youngstown company
among fastest-growing

YOUNGSTOWN — City Machine Technologies was listed among the 5,000 fastest-growing private companies in the U.S. by Inc. magazine. The Youngstown company ranked No. 4,682. Its revenue grew from $7 million in 2003 to $9.6 million last year, the magazine said on its Web site, www.inc.com. The company, which employs about 80, makes and repairs industrial equipment and lifting magnets for utilities, power plants and steel mills.

Cedar Point named
best amusement park

SANDUSKY — Amusement Today named Cedar Point the Best Amusement Park in the World for the 10th straight year. The trade publication recently announced its Golden Ticket Awards, which were determined by a panel of experts.

Cedar Point’s Maverick roller coaster won Best New Ride for 2007. These Cedar Point coasters were named among the Best Steel Roller Coasters: Millennium Force, No. 2; Magnum SL-200, No. 5; Top Thrill Dragster, No. 9; Maverick, No. 13; and Raptor, No. 19.

Baird’s Livestock joins
Angus breed registry

CANFIELD — Baird’s Livestock Co. of Canfield has become a member of the American Angus Association, a national breed registry organization in St. Joseph, Mo. The American Angus Association, with more than 34,000 active adult and junior members, is the largest beef cattle registry association in the world.

Country Creations
opens on Southern Blvd.

BOARDMAN — Country Creations, which specializes in handcrafted items, has opened at 7108 Southern Blvd. Owners Randy and Laura Green said they opened the shop after their children left home and they saw an opportunity to share their talents with others. Besides retail sales, they are offering classes in crocheting, knitting, quilting, sewing, scrapbooking and painting on glass, wood and papier-mâché.
