McBrides honored for 50th during holiday weekend
XCANFIELD — The 50th wedding anniversary of Harry and Marty McBride, 222 Sleepy Hollow Drive, was observed over the Labor Day weekend during a buffet dinner Sept. 2 at Avion on the Water.
More than 90 relatives and friends attended the celebration, which was hosted by the couple’s children and their spouses, Terri and Cathy McBride of Russellville, Ark., and Scott and Jill McBride of Mount Sterling, Ky.
Holy Trinity English Lutheran Church in Salem was the setting when Mr. McBride and the former Martha Elaine Brunner exchanged marriage vows Aug. 9, 1957, before the Rev. T.P. Laughner of Leetonia.
The McBrides have resided in Canfield and have been members of Zion Lutheran Church in Youngstown for 50 years.
Mrs. McBride was employed by Electric Furnace in Salem, then spent 24 years as head teller at the Farmers National Bank in Canfield until 1982. For a number of years she worked part time as a hostess/cashier for several Youngstown area restaurants.
Mr. McBride is an alumnus of Columbiana High School, where he was a football, track and basketball athlete and played on the 1947 Columbiana Clippers Ohio High School Basketball Association boys state champion team under coach John Cabas. He was a mechanical draftsman at Columbiana Engineering, Electric Furnace Co. and Morgan Engineering and was a founding employee of the C.F. Simmers Crane Design & Service Co. He retired from the company in 1998 after 34 years as design engineer.
