BERLIN — Beginning Monday, state Route 534 between U.S. Route 224 and Mahoning Avenue in Berlin and Milton townships will be closed for a culvert repair. The detour will be Route 224 to state Route 45 to Mahoning. This work is part of Ohio Department of Transportation’s maintenance. The work is to be completed by the middle of this month.

CANFIELD — Holmes County came out ahead in the Farm Bureau’s Ohio county barns exhibit last week at the Canfield Fair. Nearly, 5,000 people cast a vote for their favorite wooden, barn-shaped cutout, each decorated to represent one of the state’s 88 counties. The barns were displayed in the Grange building during the fair. The traveling exhibit made its way from county to county throughout the summer. Carroll, Ashland, Mahoning and Fayette counties were the next-highest vote recipients. To view the barns, visit ourohio.org.
Civil War Social planned
CANFIELD — A Civil War Social will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 15 and 16, at Loghurst, a property of the Western Reserve Historical Society, 3967 Boardman-Canfield Road, on mile east of state Route 11. There will be military maneuvers, period amusements and music and sitting with the Ladies of the 1860’s Sewing Circle. Dress up as a Confederate or Union soldier and take a photo. Participate in an old-fashioned hymn sing at noon Sunday. There will be guided tours of Loghurst, a historic house built in 1805 that was part of the underground railroad. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and pupils (kindergarten through 12th grade) and free for children 5 years and younger and WRHS members. Trolley tour to hit area
YOUNGSTOWN — Cityscape’s Sacred Landmarks Trolley Tour will stop at five area churches Sept. 29. A tour guide will offer participants information about the architecture and congregation of the churches, located in the north, south, west and central parts of the city. Lunch and a walking tour of each building are included. The event will further Cityscape’s mission to revitalize Youngstown through beautification, education and historic preservation.
