Policeman’s family seeks his release

DAYTON (AP) — The family of a policeman accused of stealing a gun from the police property room and wounding himself with it plans to circulate petitions in the community seeking to get him out of jail pending trial.

Authorities say Donald Fink shot himself in the stomach March 13 while on patrol. He told investigators he saw a shadowy figure in his car’s rearview mirror, got out of the vehicle and was shot.

Defense attorney Jon Paul Rion says Fink was being treated for depression, panic disorder and anxiety disorder at the time.

His mother, Helen Stine, says her son is missing treatment while in jail.
