McDonald officials propose Safe Routes

McDONALD — Village council had a special informational meeting recently to get the public’s input on a Safe Routes to School program.

Council is seeking for the program a portion of a $3 million federal grant, most of which would go toward installing waterlines as well as sidewalks on one side of McDonald Avenue.

If the paperwork is approved, officials should receive about $250,000 of the grant, which is being disbursed through the Ohio Department of Transportation.

The sidewalks along busy McDonald Avenue, which sees a lot of truck traffic, are needed to make it safer for pupils walking to and from McDonald High and Roosevelt Elementary schools, council members have stressed.

Earlier this year, council submitted an application for the funds, which the state will likely award in December, officials said.
