Pilot in crash had license for a year

LIMA, Ohio (AP) — The pilot killed along with his son when their plane crashed into Lake Erie received his pilot’s license last September, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Investigators have not determined what caused the crash that killed Jeff Hutchison and his 9-year-old son, Jeremy Hutchison. The lone survivor, Hutchison’s 7-year-old son, Joel, remained in fair condition at a Toledo hospital.

Hutchison’s body was found in the wreckage Tuesday near where divers found the body of his son.

The plane went down Monday night just after taking off from a small airport on Kelleys Island.

Hutchison and his boys had been at a family gathering and then decided to fly to the island, said State Highway Patrol Lt. Greg Greggila.

His wife and their two other children were not on the plane.
