The Shick family will sell 250 acres of the 500-acre plot to Centaur.
Carmen Shick, president of Bedford Downs, said the family intends to develop the rest of the property as initially proposed with a water park, hotels, restaurants, retail and condominiums.
Plans call for a 250,000-square-foot facility — about the size of two Wal-Marts — costing $430 million. Construction alone is expected to employ about 1,500 people, and after it’s completed there are expected to be 1,000 full- and part-time jobs.
Valley View Downs also will incorporate the Shicks’ original plan to build a one-mile harness racing track — the first in the state.
There will be 150 live racing days and 363 days of simulcast. The facility will have eight barns with stalls for 712 horses, a paddock with 145 additional stalls, and dormitory facilities for 100 horsemen.
