NOTEBOOK \ Scrappers

Home cooking: The Scrappers enjoyed the friendly confines of Eastwood Field for the most part in the 2007 season, showing a mark of 21-14 when they could go “home” after a game instead of back to a hotel. That means on the road, the Scrappers owned a 16-20 log entering the final three games of the season at State College’s Medlar Field. The Scrappers have posted a winning mark at Eastwood in three of the last four seasons. They were 21-17 in 2004, 25-13 in 2006 and 21-14 this season.
Down on the farm: Two Cleveland Indian affiliates will be participating in the playoffs in their respective leagues. Kinston (Advanced A) began their run for a possible Carolina League championship Wednesday night when they faced Salem in the first game of the best-of-5 series. In the Eastern League, the Akron Aeros also opened championship play Wednesday night, facing the Erie SeaWolves.
On top of the heap: Scrappers first baseman Todd Martin set a record for the highest batting average in Scrapper history with a .360 mark despite missing the final 16 games of the season, besting the previous high of .349 by Ben Francisco in 2002. In addition to his batting mark, Martin also set franchise marks in slugging percentage (.533) and on-base percentage (.423).
He’s also there: Scrappers relief pitcher Kyle Landis is virtually assured of setting the franchise mark for the lowest ERA with at least 10 appearances. Last season, Neal Wagner posted an ERA of 1.39, while this season heading into the final three games of the campaign owns a microscopic ERA of 0.34. He has only surrendered one earned run in 261⁄3 innings of work.
