Art gallery offers classes
WARREN — The Trumbull Art Gallery is offering a selection of fall classes starting Wednesday.
Adults may choose from drawing, watercolor and acrylic painting classes. Also, a digital camera class will emphasize the proper use of a digital camera and the basics of Photoshop.
A food-carving class will begin by teaching how to turn a pumpkin into a Halloween masterpiece, followed by more carving lessons where you can learn to carve melons into elements of a tablescape.
Children ages 6-16 can choose from a variety of classes, including painting with either watercolor or acrylic, creating a Halloween mask or a Hopi Indian doll, Big Head Puppets and Art as Etiquette.

Lectures on collectibles
WARREN — “Victorian Collections and Coffee” is the title of the Sutliff Museum’s fall lecture series, which begins Sept. 18. Three programs dealing with popular collectibles will each feature expert speakers, and discussion of objects audience members bring in. All programs will be held in the Thomas Meeting Room on the second floor of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library. There is no charge and no reservations are necessary. Coffee will be served at 10 a.m. and the programs will begin at 10:30.
The Sept. 18 program will feature Linda Jo Hare, president of the Great Lakes Chapter of the American Cut Glass Association. Her topic will be “American Brilliant Period Cut Glass and How It Was Created.”
On Oct. 16, Dr. Anne Bisonnette, curator at the Fashion Museum at Kent State University, will present “Victorian Tea Gowns and How Modern Fashions Evolved from Them.”
On Nov. 13, Harry J. King of Cortland will speak on “Depression Glass, an echo of the Victorian era in the 20th Century.”

Ballroom dancing event
NILES — National Ballroom Week will be celebrated Sept. 15 at Eastwood Mall. The Youngstown-Warren chapter of USA Dance, a nonprofit group promoting Ballroom dance for amateurs, is sponsoring the event, which includes about 60 exhibitions.
The presentations will range from beginning to advanced and will include amateur couples, pro-am, professionals and groups. There will be general dancing and a few line dances. The event will held from 12:30 to 5 p.m. in the main concourse, next to the sand castle.
USA Dance’s monthly dance will be held Sept. 16 at the Orthodox Center, 1025 Bella Vista Ave., Youngstown. The free event begins at 5 p.m. with personal tutoring, followed by a waltz lesson at 5:30 and open dancing from 6:15 till 9 p.m. No partners needed.
