Annual chili cook-off seeking participants

NEWTON FALLS — The 18th Annual Chili Cook-off sponsored by the Newton Falls Firefighters Auxiliary will be Oct. 13. Groups wanting to participate can pick up applications at the city manager’s office or call Phoebe Smith at (330) 872-3708.

The entry fee is $50, and applications are due before Sept. 28. Entry fee for a table for craft or sale items will be $10 each and should also be returned with applications by Sept. 28.

Contestants will start cooking at 11 a.m. Children’s events and other entertainment will begin at 1 p.m. Judging will start at 3 p.m., with the winners of the events being announced at 6 p.m.

At 3:30 p.m., cups to sample the varieties of chili will be sold for $4 each. All proceeds from the event will go toward the purchase of supplies and equipment for the Newton Falls Joint Fire District.
