Card shower was like a downpour

BOARDMAN — To celebrate the 90th birthday of Helen Tkach, her friends and family were invited to participate in a card shower — and did they ever! Although the goal was to generate 90 cards by Helen’s birthday on Aug. 31, by the time it rolled around, she had received 232 cards — enough to cover her walls and overflow into a basket, according to her son, Ray Tkach of Sterling, Ill. Helen is a 19-year resident of Boardman Specialty Care and Rehabilitation Center on South Avenue, where a party was also held to mark the occasion.
