Bomb squad detonates explosives off Ridge Road

CORTLAND — A portion of Bradley-Brownlee Road in Johnston Township was closed Tuesday afternoon while members of the Youngstown Bomb Squad secured several sticks of military grade explosives found by a woman in her garage.

The explosives were detonated by the bomb squad in a field off Ridge Road just north of Irishtown-Southworth Road, according to the Trumbull County 911 Center. The explosives were reported found at about 2:05 p.m. Schools with bus runs in the area were notified that the road was closed, and people in the area were told to turn off their cell phones.
