Two hurt after glider crash in Smith Twp.

NORTH BENTON — A passenger in a glider was taken to Cleveland Metro Hospital after a crash about 3:15 p.m. Saturday near Miller Airport in Smith Township.

The pilot, Edward Beck, 80, of Hudson, a World War II veteran, was released after treatment at Alliance Community Hospital.

According to the Canfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Beck said the altimeter in the glider registered 1,000 feet in altitude, when the glider was about 100 feet above the ground.

The glider clipped a tree, spun clockwise, and landed in a field.

The patrol said it had no more information on the passenger.
