Kim Bates of Bates Bros. Amusement Co. said the company recorded its second-highest ridership rates in the fair’s history. Fair board member George Roman III said the Demolition Derby sold out.
Canfield painter wins
CANFIELD — A Canfield man took home top honors in the Canfield Fair’s annual En Plein Air competition, an open-air painting competition held on the fairgrounds, said fair board president Kathryn Bennett.
Entrants are given an hours-long window to complete their paintings. This year’s top honors went to Chris Leeper, first; Nancy Hawkins, of Columbiana, second; and Paula Smith, of Warren, third.

CANFIELD — Youngstown resident Fran Hurayt may have made Domestic Arts and Crafts history Wednesday, taking home best in show in both canning and baking.
Fair officials aren’t sure if a single individual has ever received two of the category’s highest awards in the past, said fair board president Kathryn Bennett.
