Juried exhibition to open in Salem

SALEM —The Hoyt Artists Association’s third annual juried exhibition will open Saturday at the Butler Institute of American Art’s Salem Branch. An opening reception for the public will be from 1 to 3 p.m.
Twenty-four artists hailing from southwestern Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio offer 64 works in a variety of media ranging from oil, acrylic, and pastels to photography, mixed media and found objects. The exhibit will be on display through Oct. 20.
William Perry of Harmony, Pa., was awarded best in show for his watercolor titled “Chautauqua.”
Merit awards were given to the following artists: Kate Burke of Volant for her acrylic on foamboard painting “Silver Lining”; John Fobes of Pittsburgh for his photograph “Dixmont State Hospital”; and Patricia McLatchy of New Wilmington, Pa., for her mixed media/encaustic work titled “Green Man.”
The Hoyt “Artists Association, of New Castle, Pa., formed in 2005 to promote regional arts and artists.
