161 years

Odds and ends from the 161 years of the Canfield Fair.

1847: First fair held. Admission one shilling, or 12.5 cents.

1850s: Freak Shows introduced.

1956: Lassie, the TV star collie, is special guest at fair.

1964: Fire destroyed the Hay and Grain Building.

1982: Guinea pigs make their debut at the fair.

1996: Fair attendees set a world record when an estimated 72,000 people took part in the chicken dance.

2007: Alan Gibson breaks all-time record with a 991-pound giant pumpkin.
