YSU/OSU Live | Second quarter highlights

Ohio State running back Chris “Beanie” Wells plunged over for a 1-yard touchdown to make it 14-0 on the first play of the second quarter.

YSU made it 14-3 with its first nice drive of the game early in the second, driving 81 yards in 14 plays to the Buckeyes’ 4. Brian Palmer, a Mineral Ridge High graduate, made a 21-yard field goal with 4:34 left.

The Penguins had a chance to score on third-and-goal at the OSU 4, but quarterback Tom Zetts overthrew Derrick Bush in the left corner of the end zone.

Zetts had a nifty pass to D’Michael Horn for a 25-yard gain on third-and-6 early in the drive, giving the Penguins a first down at the Buckeyes’ 34. Horn was covered tightly but made a nice adjustment and Zetts put the ball on the sideline side, allowing Horn to make a play.

Ohio State closed out the second-quarter scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run by freshman Brandon Saine to make it 21-3. Saine was Ohio’s Mr. Football last year at Piqua, winning a state championship his senior season. YSU safety Bob Perez committed a costly pass interference penalty on third-and-17 during the drive to give the Buckeyes a first down at the YSU 21.

Without that penalty, it’d probably be 17-3 at halftime.
