Penguins move to 5-0;
beat UNC-Greensboro

PITTSBURGH — The Youngstown State volleyball team set the school record for most wins to start a season after improving to 5-0 Friday with a 30-22, 30-23, 25-30, 30-16 win over UNC-Greensboro (4-1) at the Duquesne⁄Robert Morris Invitational.

Senior Jessica Fraley collected 14 kills and 13 digs and a recorded a .370 hitting percentage. Junior setter Karla Everhart dished out 35 assists.

Poland Fog goes 20-1

POLAND — The Poland Fog, a 47-over baseball team, finished the season with a 20-1 record after finishing undefeated in a double-elimination tournament. Over the last eight seasons, the Fog has won four regular season championships and finished second the other four years.

Remias paces Fitch

AUSTINTOWN — Brian Remias scored three goals in leading the Fitch High boys soccer team to a 5-4 victory Thursday in a Federal League game.

Adam Bohr and Nick Bowles scored a goal apiece for the Falcons (1-1, 1-0), while Andy Kollar had two assists and Matt Davenport had one.

Tim Henman loses;
ending tennis career

NEW YORK — Tim Henman’s Grand Slam tennis career is over, ending with a second-round loss to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at the U.S. Open on Friday night.

Henman, a six-time major semifinalist who is retiring next month, lost 7-6 (2), 2-6, 7-5, 6-4.

Va. Tech starting QB

BLACKSBURG, Va. — In the three weeks immediately following his fourth-quarter meltdown last season in Virginia Tech’s 31-24 loss to Georgia in the Chick-fil-A Bowl, Sean Glennon went into hiding.

He processed it all. The three interceptions, the lost fumble, the squandered opportunity . . .. all in the final 15 minutes. By the time he sat down with Tech quarterbacks coach Mike O’Cain in late January to talk about the game, Glennon was ready to let it all go.

FONTANA, Calif. — While Joe Gibbs Racing officials remained mum Friday on the anticipated switch from Chevrolet to Toyota, Kyle Busch was more than happy to talk about it.

Busch, who will leave Hendrick Motorsports to drive for JGR in 2008, said he got a call from the team earlier this week confirming the change.

INDIANAPOLIS — Tamika Catchings had 22 points and 11 rebounds to help the Indiana Fever beat the Detroit Shock 75-65 on Friday night in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Catchings set a franchise record with her fourth consecutive double-double. She is averaging 20.3 points and 14.3 rebounds in the playoffs.
