Tickets for playhouse
from Mahoning Valley HBA
The charitable committee of the Home Builders/Remodelers Association of Mahoning Valley — HBA Building Wishes — is showcasing the final custom-made playhouse during the Canfield Fair this weekend.
This traditional life-sized playhouse will be raffled off to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation —Tri-County Chapter, Habitat for Humanity and HBA of Mahoning Valley. The booth location at the fair is on the corner of Kohler & Miller. Look for the Habitat for Humanity signs.
Three total playhouses were constructed by HBA Builder members — Barry Tancer of Reed Family Builders, Brian Fonderlin of Fonderlin Development, Andy Ceglia of Drew’s Construction, Rob Reilly of Reilly Construction and Andy Profanchik of APCO Construction.
All lumber and materials were donated by ME Supply Co., Reliable Lumber, The Home Depot, and Banner Supply. Various other HBA member suppliers donated a vast amount of material to the project.
Tickets can be purchased for the following donation amounts: one ticket for $5, seven tickets for $25 and 50 tickets for $100. All money raised will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Habitat for Humanity and the HBA of Mahoning Valley. The winner will be drawn on the last day of the fair at 6 p.m. Monday.
Sunday Church services
at Symphony Stage
Catholic church services will be at 8 a.m. Sunday at the Youngstown Symphony Stage on the Concourse. Father Ed Noga, of St. Patrick Church, will lead the service. All are welcome to attend.
Weather cuts attendance
Overcast skies and temperatures as low as 62 degrees are being blamed for low attendance rates at the fair Thursday. A total of 41,275 people passed through admission gates, lower than last year, said Timm Schreiber, fair board member. The second day of the 2006 fair drew 51,905 attendees, he said.
The shortcoming brings two-day attendance totals to 66,589, said Schreiber. The two-day attendance total for 2006 was 76,494. But with forecasts in the mid-80s for the rest of the week, Schreiber said he’s optimistic attendance totals will recover completely.
Smoke draws fire crews
Fire crews were dispatched to the Education Building on Thursday after smoke started billowing from electrical circuits related to the building’s lighting system, said Rich Denamen, an educational service representative at the fair. The situation was quickly brought under control and programming is operating normally at the building, he said.
