Sales tax revenues for counties in Mahoning Valley increase

Sales tax collections in Mahoning and Trumbull counties rose slightly in the first half of the year, while receipts in Columbiana County took a larger jump.
Columbiana County commissioners enacted an extra 0.5 percent sales tax, which took effect this past April.
Mahoning County collected $14.03 million in the first six months of this year, which was a 1.1 percent increase over the $13.88 million collected in the same period last year.
In Trumbull County, receipts totaled $10.73 million in the first half of 2007, which was a 2.2 percent increase over the $10.5 million collected in the same period last year.
June was a good month for both counties.
Mahoning County’s collections increased 3 percent that month to $2.25 million. Trumbull County’s collections were up 2.3 percent to $1.74 million.
Both counties have a 1 percent sales tax.
Columbiana County collected $4.91 million in the first half of this year, which was an 18.2 percent increase over the $4.16 million collected in the same period last year.
In June, tax receipts were up 53.5 percent to $1.03 million.
Columbiana County has a 1.5 percent sales tax.
Statewide, sales tax collections increased 2.7 percent in the first six months of this year to $848.4 million.
