Sex offender charged with rape and assault

WARREN — A registered sex offender has been charged with rape.

Charles L. Lemons III, 50, of Karl Avenue, Warren Township, was arraigned today before municipal Judge Thomas Gysegem. He is in the Trumbull County Jail in lieu of a $250,000 bond, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 8 on charges of rape and felonious assault.

Detective Sgt. Jeffrey Cole said Lemons, allegedly hit a 21-year-old woman with a hammer and raped her about 10 p.m. Monday at a Warren residence. The woman is a relative of Lemons, Cole added.

Cole said Lemons was convicted in 1978 of rape, kidnapping and abduction and labeled a sex offender. Lemons was released from prison several years ago, the detective added.
