NFL ROUNDUP \ News and notes

Steelers: Pittsburgh finally gave up on 2004 second-round draft pick Ricardo Colclough, releasing the cornerback and signing cornerback Anthony Madison, who played 12 games for Pittsburgh as a rookie free agent last season. He was released by Pittsburgh when training camp ended this year and spent a week with Tampa Bay before being waived. Colclough was a gamble pick by the Steelers out of Division II Tusculum and he never found a regular role in their defense. In three-plus Steelers seasons, Colclough had one interception and 33 tackles.

Jets: The mystery surrounding Jonathan Vilma’s injured knee was not clarified even during a conference call. The linebacker, out for the season after being placed on injured reserve, said he’s still mulling surgery for what he described only as “a regular knee injury.” He also wouldn’t specify which knee is affected.

Packers: DeShawn Wynn’s season is over, while Koren Robinson’s could begin Sunday at Kansas City. Green Bay added the reinstated wide receiver, making room for him on the 53-man roster by placing Wynn, their leading rusher, on season-ending injured reserve. Coach Mike McCarthy said Wynn has “a significant shoulder injury.”

Bills: Quarterback J.P. Losman will start Sunday against Cincinnati. The team announced that Trent Edwards needs additional time to recover from a sprained right wrist. Coach Dick Jauron said in a statement that it’s unclear whether Edwards will practice at all this week. Edwards, a third-round draft pick last April, hurt his throwing hand in the third quarter of Buffalo’s 13-3 win at the New York Jets last weekend. Losman took over with the game tied at 3 and produced two scoring drives, sealing the win with an 85-yard touchdown pass to Lee Evans.

Cowboys: Wearing jeans and an untucked golf shirt, Tony Romo treated Tuesday as if it was any other day of work. Well, there were a few differences. Such as the fact he brought mom and dad to team headquarters. And the $67.5 million contract he showed up to sign. Owner Jerry Jones called Romo “the man for the 2000s,” adding, “I wouldn’t have done this if I didn’t think he gives us a chance to win Super Bowls.”

Redskins: Cornerback Carlos Rogers was placed on injured reserve and cornerback John Eubanks was promoted from the practice squad. Rogers tore two ligaments in his right knee in the first quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Patriots. He will have reconstructive surgery later this month.

Texans: Craig Nall was signed to add depth at quarterback with starter Matt Schaub ailing after helmet-to-helmet hits in consecutive games. Nall was released by Buffalo before the season, but re-signed after quarterback J.P. Losman was injured in Week 3. The Bills released him again Oct. 19.

Titans: Long snapper Ken Amato was replaced by fullback and long snapper Jeremy Cain. The Titans lost Amato to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee late in Sunday’s 13-9 victory over Oakland. They already had Cain on the practice squad, signing him last week.
