2nd home to be built in wake of gas explosion
NEW CASTLE, Pa.— New homes are rising in a neighborhood devastated by a natural-gas explosion last November.
Last month, the Signoriello family moved into the first home built near the site of the blast. The family partnered with Lawrence County Habitat for Humanity on the county’s first “OUTREACH Apostles Build,” where 12 local churches raised funds and provided volunteers for all aspects of the build.
On Sunday, Habitat and Quality Aggregates, Inc. will have a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the construction of a second home on the street destroyed by the explosion, which was caused when a man tried to commit suicide by gassing himself. His home exploded, but he survived and is in prison.
Joseph Aloe, president of Quality Aggregates Inc., has offered his company’s employees as volunteer labor, and he’s rallied support from QAI business associates to donate material and services.
Frank Moses, president of Lawrence County Habitat affiliate, commended QAI for stepping forward with support.
Habitat for Humanity has plans to build a third home in 2008 on a lot adjacent to the others. If you want to apply to be a Habitat homeowner or if you want to support the local Habitat affiliate, call (724) 652-3438.
