Warren man gets prison term for May shooting

WARREN — A 19-year-old city man will spend 10 years in prison for shooting another man to death in the Hampshire House apartments on Fifth Street Southwest on May 16.

Keith M. Brown of York Avenue Northwest was sentenced to seven years in prison for voluntary manslaughter and three years for a specification that he used a gun when he killed TerrandallJ. Monday of Perkinswood Boulevard.

Judge Andrew Logan pronounced sentence today in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.

Chris Becker, an assistant county prosecutor, said one witness said the two men got into an argument at about 2:15 a.m. after Monday accidentally spit on Brown’s shoe.

The two men fought, with Monday getting the better of Brown, Becker said.

Brown then went into a nearby apartment, obtained a gun and shot Monday twice — once in the abdomen and once in the lower back.

Brown initially was charged with felonious assault, but the voluntary manslaughter charge was added when Monday died June 3 at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
