Ohio student killed in N.C. house fire

CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio family has been notified that their daughter was among those killed in a weekend fire at a North Carolina beach house, a family friend said Monday.

Police notified the family that Allison Walden, 19, a student at the University of South Carolina, was killed in the fire early Sunday, said Susan Steines, who answered a call to the home of Terry and Diane Walden in this Cleveland suburb.

Robert Hunt, assistant superintendent of Chagrin Falls schools and principal of Chagrin Falls High School when Walden graduated in 2006, said he contacted the family early Monday and they have made funeral arrangements.

A funeral service is planned Saturday at Federated Church in Chagrin Falls.
