Denver crushed again as Packers win in OT

Brett Favre connected with on the first play of overtime.

DENVER (AP) — Jay Cutler drove the Broncos down the field to set up Jason Elam’s 21-yard, game-tying field goal as time expired, sending the Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers to overtime Monday night knotted at 13.

One offensive play later, the game was over as Packers quarterback Brett Favre hit wide receiver Greg Jennings on the fly for an 82-yard touchdown and 19-13 win.

Late in the fourth quarter, Cutler and the Broncos got the ball back at their 7 with 2:27 remaining. Cutler converted a fourth-down play with a pass to Brandon Stokley early in the drive and then had two big pass plays to receiver Brandon Marshall.

The Broncos rushed the kicking unit onto the field with less than 10 seconds remaining. Elam set up in a hurry and booted it through the uprights.

Cutler led the Broncos on a game-winning drive last week in a 31-28 win over Pittsburgh.

Elam kicked a 45-yard field goal in the third quarter to pull Denver to within 13-10.

The Broncos chewed up most of the third quarter with a drive that lasted 7 minutes, 39 seconds, ending in Elam’s field goal. He’s now 11-of-14 on field goal attempts this season.

Green Bay drove the ball inside the Broncos 5 yard line twice in the second quarter only to settle for Mason Crosby’s 19- and 26-yard kicks.

Ryan Grant, a seldom-used tailback, had 22 carries for 104 yards at the end of regulation. He filled in when DeShawn Wynn went out with a shoulder injury in the second quarter. Grant had just six carries coming into the game.

The Broncos had the ball at the Green Bay 1 as the first quarter expired.

However, on the first play after the break, left guard Chris Kuper ran into Cutler as he was moving out from under center, jarring the ball loose.

Green Bay’s Nick Barnett recovered.
