Task force arrests 6 impaired drivers

The Mahoning County OVI Task Force arrested six impaired drivers when it stopped 536 vehicles during a sobriety checkpoint conducted from 10 p.m. to midnight Saturday at Mahoning Avenue and Millet Avenue on Youngstown’s West Side.

The task force, which stopped drivers to check for those who are operating a vehicle impaired, tested 12 people for impaired driving. There were four driving under suspension arrests and one arrest for lack of an operating license.

The Ohio Investigative Unit/Ohio Department of Public Safety also was out to follow up on complaints about illegal sales of alcohol. The Wedge in Austintown was cited for sales to minors. Two people were arrested — a bartender for underage sales and an individual for underage consumption.
