Hall of Fame

Robert Brienik of Austintown will be inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame on Nov. 8 in Columbus. Here are some of the honors and activities contained in Brienik’s nomination for the hall’s Class of 2007.

Trustee and vice chairman of the Christmas gift shop committee at the Brecksville Veterans Affairs Hospital, 1994-99.

Charter member of the Mahoning Veterans Memorial, and involved in getting the Log Cabin moved to the Canfield Fairgrounds.

Responsible for soliciting thousands of dollars in donations for the Youngstown VA Clinic and Brecksville facility, and for collecting a large amount of clothing for the VA hospitals in Cleveland.

Works with VA Clinic social workers administering a Needy Veterans Food Pantry.

Served on a Youngstown State University task force looking for ways to make veterans more aware of the opportunities offered by the university.

Received the Youngstown Volunteer Service Agency’s Volunteer of the Year award in 2006.

Served as chairman of the James A. Parke Veterans Affairs National Scholarship Committee this year.

Responsible for establishing a Hallway of Honor at the Youngstown VA Outpatient Clinic consisting of 12 displays of the medals and badges of the United States’ five military services.
